The Southwest Classic 2010 is scheduled for Feburary 20 - 21. The first stop in the Western States Triad Series.

Soaring USA will be awarding $500.00 to the person who wins the SWC 2010 "Open" Class using an Xplorer model.

  • Location: Schnepf Farms in Queen Creek, Arizona (Directions and more info)
  • Rounds: Sat: 4, 8, 10, 6 and 5* minutes (* if times allows). Sun: 5, 7 and 9 minutes.
  • Landing: Tape with graduated points. Using a tape (flat rope) to measure the distance from a bullseye. The landing points are 20, 15 and 5. The radius from the center is 0 to 9 inches (20 points), 9 to 23 inches (15 points) and 23 to 35 inches (5 points).
  • Classes: Open, Two Meter, RES, and RES Woody
  • Entry Fee: $45.00 (non-refundable) for initial entry and $30.00 for each additional class. Youth entry is $25.00 (non-refundable) for initial entry and $30.00 for each additional class. (up to 4 class entries per pilot) ENTRIES LIMITED TO THE FIRST 250 APPLICATIONS RECEIVED.

  • Pilot Meeting: 7:30 AM each morning
  • Awards: Open 1st-10th, 2M 1st-3rd, RES 1st-3rd, Res Woody 1st Previously Declared AMA Club Teams 1st only. Gray Cup (62+years) and Youth Award (AMA Youth members only. Under 19 as of contest date.)
  • Raffle: Sunday - half before the awards presentation and half after the awards presentation.
  • Camping: Dry Camping and RV spaces with hookups are available on the field. If you would like to reserve a space please contact Schnepf Farms directly at 480-987-3333.

  • Registration Opens: on Nov. 11, 2009
  • Registration Closes: Closed
  • T-shirts: $16.00 for T-Shirt and $22.00 for Polo Shirt.
  • BBQ: Saturday Night Dinner $18. Breakfast will be available Saturday and Sunday morning. Lunch will also be available on Saturday. "The Wild Bunch" will be providing the catering so don't forget to drop by and grab some good eats!!
  • Other Events: Fun flying will be allowed after the contest on Saturday as long as it does not conflict with other events. An informal Hand-launch contest will be held on Saturday afternoon. Slow Stick combat possible night time combat. Also night time flying on Friday and Saturday, so bring your night lights and have fun!

Hot Deal!
The Best Western Legacy Inn & Suites in Gilbert has agreed to provide an event discount for the SWC 2010. The discounted rate is $89 a night (regular rate is $129). The group code for the RC Soaring event is  “ RCSOAR” . You can book the rooms two different ways: their website, which is www.bestwesternlegacyinn.com or you can do so by calling the hotel directly at 480-457-8181. Hot Deal!
The Super 8 in Apache Junction, (480) 288-8888, has agreed to block 15 rooms at a discounted rate of $89 a night (regular rate is $129). Reservations must be made by 2/12/2010 to receive this discounted rate. When making the reservation you will have to tell the reservation clerk that you are with the Southwest Classic. After 2/12/2010 Super 8 will be releasing any remaining rooms of the original 15. (See second pic below for location)
